Trailer For ‘Death Grip’

The full trailer has been released for ‘Death Grip’, a new action extravaganza written, directed by and starring The Stunt People’s Eric Jacobus. The film sees Jacobus playing a man forced to fight for his life after his brother becomes wrapped up in the dark world of a murderous satanic cult.

Synopsis

After 15 years of estrangement, caterer Kenny Zemacus checks his autistic brother Mark out of a care home in an effort to set his life straight. Assigned a last minute museum catering gig, Kenny reluctantly brings Mark along, who is immediately captivated by the museum’s showpiece – the world-renowned Sacred Coin of Judas. When a murderous satanic cult attempts to steal the coin after the event, Mark’s childlike fascination unwittingly entangles the two brothers in the middle, pinning them with the crime.

Worried that contacting the authorities will result in social services taking Mark away again, Kenny decides they must recover the Coin themselves to clear their names. When Mark is captured, Kenny must descend into the cult’s demonic world to save his brother, propelling them both face to face with their own dark past.

‘Death Grip’ co-stars Johnny Yong Bosch, Nathan Hoskins, Rebecca Ahn, Ray Carbonel, Chelsea Steffensen, Alvin Hsing, Shaun Finney, and Lucas Okuma. The film is due for release in May 2012 and you can keep up-to-date with the production via their Facebook page. You can also follow Eric’s own exploits through his blog, The Actionist.

Trailer: ‘Death Grip’ Involves A Bunch Of Dudes In Robes Beating Each Other Up… And It Looks Awesome!

By

Admittedly I haven’t heard anything about this movie until the trailer came out.  But what a trailer!

We don’t see many American martial arts movies come out — frankly Asia has cornered the market on them since the genre has been invented — so I’m impressed that Death Grip (the title already sounds like it fits a classic 1970s kung fu, as does the poster) already looks like a winner.  The story doesn’t seem to matter much — it apparently revolves around a coin — but here’s the plot anyway:

Death Grip tells the story of ex-thief turned lowly caterer Kenny Zemacus, who checks his autistic brother out of a care home where he’s spent the past 15 years since their mother’s death. When Kenny reluctantly brings Mark on a last minute museum catering gig that night, Mark unwittingly entangles them in a dangerous heist involving the museum’s mysterious showpiece — the silver Coin of Judas – and a murderous satanic cult, propelling them into the cult’s demonic world and forcing them to face the depths of their own dark past.

Death Grip is written, directed, produced and stars Eric Jacobus (Counter) and also stars martial arts vet Johnny Yong Bosch.  It’s set for a May release.  Check out the trailer below:

Eric Jacobus gets a ‘Grip’ in HK…

By Mike Leeder

For his latest film Eric Jacobus mixes Rain Man and Ocean’s 11 for a dramatic supernatural caper movie, Death Grip…

San Francisco-based Eric Jacobus and his team The Stuntpeople, have been delivering Hong Kong flavoured high impact action for several years in such projects as action comedy ContourDogs of Chinatown and various short films and music videos. Jacobus is currently in post production the fast paced Death Grip which tells the story of ex-thief turned lowly caterer Kenny Zemacus, who checks his autistic brother out of a care home where he’s spent the past 15 years since their mother’s death.

Jacobus wrote, directed and edited the film as well as starring in the movie opposite former Power Ranger Johnny Yong Bosch of Wicked Game and Broken Path/Broken Fist fame. We’ve long admired Jacobus and his teams work, featuring them in Impact various times over the years and it’s great to see the progression they’ve made with each and every project. What’s Vulcan Death Grip When You Have Eric Jacobus DEATH GRIP!

There’s nothing better than a film getting to the point especially if its a action flick, get the main points of the plot across and get to what we’re here to see…The action! Eric Jacobus DEATH GRIP is one of those films and within seconds into the trailer for the film (which is below) the action is in your face big style. It’s a low budget martial arts film but don’t let that put you off as the action is superb, breath of fresh air and to really show Jacobus also directs, written and edited too!

Death Grip tells the story of ex-thief turned lowly caterer Kenny Zemacus, who checks his autistic brother out of a care home where he’s spent the past 15 years since their mother’s death. I’ve never seen any of Jacobus films including 2006 Contour film but reading on posts Death Grip certainly sounds like a vast improvement and all his skills on show! Badass! No word if this film will be release in UK however its heading to USA this May.

First it was Death Grip. Then it was changed to Rise And Fail. Now, it is back to Death Grip again.

Check out some ass kicking, bone crunching action in the frantic trailer for new martial arts flick ‘Death Grip’

Death Grip, also known as Rise and Fail, is directed by Eric Jacobus and this is only his second feature film as a director on his own. In Death Grip, the talented fighter directs, edits, writes and stars in what looks to be an insane action flick. The trailer has just been released, and it’s a whopper, dispensing with the plot details almost instantly and heading straight into the action. The trailer is quite literally almost two minutes of fighting and it looks awesome!

I have read that the film, currently in post-production, is due for release in the US sometime in May. No release date has yet been announced for the UK, but we will keep an eye on this. Now, let’s get the synopsis out the way so you can get to the awesome trailer!

Contour Director Eric Jacobus Wishes to Put You in His Death Grip

By Todd Rigney

Although I loved Eric Jacobus’ 2006 martial arts flick “Contour”, I’d completely forgotten about the flick until I stumbled across a trailer for the filmmaker’s latest endeavor “Death Grip”. For a low-budget kung fu movie, “Contour” was severely badass, and I suspect that “Death Grip” will be no different. Judging from the trailer nestled below, Jacobus and company have improved their skills tenfold, and the fights look nothing short of spectacular. Keep your eyes locked on this one, as I suspect you’ll be hearing more about it in the future.

Before checking out the trailer, peruse this synopsis:

Death Grip tells the story of ex-thief turned lowly caterer Kenny Zemacus, who checks his autistic brother out of a care home where he’s spent the past 15 years since their mother’s death. When Kenny reluctantly brings Mark on a last minute museum catering gig that night, Mark unwittingly entangles them in a dangerous heist involving the museum’s mysterious showpiece — the silver Coin of Judas – and a murderous satanic cult, propelling them into the cult’s demonic world and forcing them to face the depths of their own dark past.

What’s even more impressive is that, in addition to tackling the lead role, Jacobus wrote, directed, and edited the feature himself. That’s insane. When you’re ready, take a peek at the impossibly fierce, action-packed trailer embedded below. Just don’t be surprised if you walk away with bruises all over your ocular cavities.

DEATH GRIP Trailer: Punch the Satanic Guys in Hooded Robes!

by Peter Martin

The new trailer for Eric Jacobus’ Death Grip dispenses with the story in about 10 seconds and then gets on to its real attraction: close-action martial-arts kicking and punching, mostly by a single man against a bunch of guys in hooded robes. And what fighting it is!

Jacobus wrote, directed, and edited the film, his second effort; he made his directorial debut with Contour in 2006. Jacobus also plays the lead role. Here’s the official synopsis:

Death Grip tells the story of ex-thief turned lowly caterer Kenny Zemacus, who checks his autistic brother out of a care home where he’s spent the past 15 years since their mother’s death. When Kenny reluctantly brings Mark on a last minute museum catering gig that night, Mark unwittingly entangles them in a dangerous heist involving the museum’s mysterious showpiece — the silver Coin of Judas – and a murderous satanic cult, propelling them into the cult’s demonic world and forcing them to face the depths of their own dark past.

Admittedly, I’m not familiar with Jacobus’ past work — he’s a veteran stunt performer and coordinator — but an informed friend told me: “The guy’s got skills and they’re on full display here.” I’m in full agreement. Death Grip is currently in post-production and scheduled for release in May. Check out the trailer below.

Bonus Post: Death Grip Trailer

by Kelly Miller

I mentioned this in today’s Finishing Blow, but I didn’t have time to get to it until now. Hopefully you’ve heard about this film enough to know about it, so I’ll just be quiet and let the movie speak for itself.

Death Grip Trailer

While it’ s been a while since we heard about Death Grip, this trailer proves that everything is going very well on track. You can clearly see that a lot of time was put into the action, and it doesn’t look like they wasted a minute of it. All of the fights in the trailer look fast and frantic. I’m excited to see how far the Stunt People go to entertain us, and I’m sure the end result will be awesome!

What’s in a Title? Rise and Fail or Death Grip?

by Kelly Miller

It was announced today that Rise and Fail would be, most likely, referred to as Death Grip once again. Here was their reasoning for going back to the original title:

While the change to “Rise And Fail” felt more appropriate for the film’s stronger story, we do agree that it can be a bit confusing in telling what kind of a film it actually is. Whereas the title Death Grip very clearly says, “this is an action film.” And in the end, story aside, we do want people to see this first and foremost as an action movie.

Personally, I’d pick Death Grip over the two choices, as I think it has a very “old school” vibe to it while still letting people know what type of movie it is. As stated, Rise and Fail takes a little more explanation, but doesn’t necessarily make it a worse title.

That being said, I’m curious what you guys think about the importance of a movie title. Would you prefer Death Grip or Rise and Fail?

What about movies like Danny the Dog, where the title was changed to Unleashed for US audiences? I always thought Danny the Dog was better, and that the original title should be what distributors stick to. Feel free to sound off on how important you think a movie’s title can be.
